The rubber loom bands pose a danger to pets and children if swallowed, cause-oriented groups warned the public.

According to Philippine Animal Welfare Society 'PAWS', these are cute rubber bands but is very hard to digest and can make cats and dogs ill.
There are reported incidents in US that veterinarians noted intestinal obstruction among pet patients. When ingested, it can shatter the intestinal tract and can cause stomach upset.
Loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea are some of the symptoms of the intestinal obstruction.
Reminded by the PAWS and EcoWaste Coalition, children must also be supervised when playing with the popular 'Rainbow Looms'.
It was also urged by EcoWaste Coalition coordinator, Thony Dizon that citizens must not buy counterfeit loom bands. Those that are being sold in markets are without authorization from the Food and Drug Administration although they did not find lead and and other toxic materials according to Dizon, there is no assurance that these products are totally safe for consumers and the environment.
